Friends of the Library
The mission of the NWHS Friends of the Library Advisory Board (FOTL) is to offer students the leadership opportunity of supporting the library by assisting the staff in planning events, selecting books, materials, and activities. This organization is open to all NWHS students.
How do you join FOTL??
Near the start of the school year, FOTL will hold an interest meeting after school. Students who are interested in becoming members should plan to attend the interest meeting or notify Mrs. Guerra or Mrs. Martin if they are unable to attend. Students who volunteer at least one hour a month in the library will remain active members.
FOTL members can become involved in the following responsibilities:
Advantages and Outcomes
In addition to giving you a voice in what goes on in the library, FOTL members are also provided with a great leadership opportunity within the school (ideal when applying for a job or on a college application). FOTL also gives members a sense of ownership and responsibility. Participants will also feel a sense of teamwork, friendship, cooperation and

- Provide assistance to plan and host events, activities, programs (i.e. author visits, book discussions).
- Help select books and materials.
- Weed outdated materials and make new recommendations.
- Design and create displays.
- Assist with publicity (posters, flyers, etc.).
- Develop booklists and reviews.
- Make shelf-talker cards, bookmarks, and other readers’ advisory tools.
- Volunteer to do assorted tasks in the library
